Shandong Province Weihai Shipyard, a backbone state-owned enterprise specializing in shipbuilding and ship repairing, has over 3600 staffs including about 2600 outsourcing workers and 400 professional technicians. With total assets of 1.3 billion RMB, the yard is capable of building various kinds of vessels up to 100,000DWT and repairing vessels up to 100,000DWT. So far Weihai Shipyard has built over 300 vessels of container vessel, bulk carrier, etc.
In 1999, the yard passed ISO9001 Quality System Approval and began to have a self-operated power to engage in import and export trade. Since 1996, it has built over 40 vessels of container ship, bulk carrier and multi-purpose container vessels, etc. for overseas ship-owners who came from Germany, Holland, Canada, Japan, etc. The quality of these ships enjoys great reputation from ship-owners.
For years, the shipyard is actualizing the strategy of invigorating the yard through science and technology energetically and renovates the facilities constantly. The yard developed a series of shipbuilding equipments such as 400T gantry crane by itself and brought in very advanced facilities of shot blast pre-treating line and large numerical control cutter. In order to enhance the ability of independent innovation and development, the yard established a province-level technical center that integrated with product research, new ship development and workmanship development. The yard also introduced into ERP (Enterprise Resources Plan) to carry into execution of effectual normative management of enterprise resources.
In order to establish modern shipbuilding mode and fetch in the advanced management technique and design concept of international shipbuilding industry, the yard established Shandong Delta-Marine Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. in the joint venture with Finland Delta-Sigma Company. On the premise of fulfilling the demand of the yard’s shipbuilding, the company will also extend its business to the domestic and overseas market. Furthermore, for the purpose of innovating in the material flow mode and acclimatizing to the changing market, Weihai Shipyard established Weihai Jigang Qiyue Marine Material Co. Ltd in the joint-venture with Jinan Iron & Steel Group and Weihai Qiyue Co. Ltd. ?Taking the Machining, sale and dispatch of Marine materials as its main business, the new company will be one of the biggest material flow centers of marine material in Shandong Province.
Utilizing the continuous bloom of the international shipbuilding market, the yard holds the good opportunity and tries hard to expand the market shares these years. The yard has about 10 vessels order forms in hand and is in its best development period at present.
In order to fulfill the needs of making the yard powerful and transnormal bouncing development, a whole moving program has been carried out since August 2005. The new yard (Shandong New Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. Ltd) is located in the Zaobei Bay Gushan Town, Economic & Technology District, Weihai City, and occupies a land area of seven hundred forty thousand square meters (740,000m2) as well as a water area of one million six hundred thousand square meters (1,600,000m2). As one of the key construction items of Shandong Province in 2005, the new yard has been placed in the Program of National Shipbuilding Industry Development and is programmed and constructed according to the modern shipbuilding mode. The whole investment of this project is up to RMB 2, 426,000,000 (RMB two billion four hundred and twenty six million) and will be divided into three phases. The annual output of shipbuilding will reach 300,000DWT when the first phase is come into production and 580,000DWT when the second phase completed and 1,000,000DWT when the third phase completed. Mainly with shipbuilding, the new yard will be a modern，harmonious enterprise that shipbuilding and ship repairing will be developed simultaneously.
